lyrics

I returned to the town where I was born
Walked alone down the empty streets
The buildings that remained were old and worn
Not a soul around to meet

But I could see my mom, I could see my dad
I remembered the good times we had
Like the fire warm on a night so cold
And in that moment … I wasn’t old

I stood inside the old abandoned church
The mornings that I knelt down to pray
Recalled the day my heart began its search
And the moment when I knew I couldn’t stay

My father’s eyes, my mother’s hand
I remembered the painful times we had
The light streamed down, bathed me in gold
And in that moment … I wasn’t old

Outside of town’s my daddy’s grave
A place I haven’t seen for 40 years
Weeds had grown but purple flowers waved
I saw them and I couldn’t stop the tears

I cried for Mom, I cried for my dad
I cried for the times we never had
The way I felt so long ago
And for one day … for that one day … I wasn’t old
